📗 Quantifiers

En B2/C1 es esencial no solo usarlos bien, sino también matizar (e.g., most of the, all of the).

every É-vri cada, todos los Grupo considerado conjunto; countable singular Every employee must sign this form.
enough i-NÁF suficiente/s Antes de noun, después de adjective/adverb We have enough chairs. / She isn't tall enough.
no nóu ningún/a Directamente antes del noun; más enfático que not any There is no excuse for this behaviour.

⚠️ Trampas frecuentes en el examen:

  • All students (generalización) ≠ All of the students (grupo específico)
  • Most people (generalización) ≠ Most of the people in this room (grupo concreto)
  • Each y every van siempre con verbo en singular: Each of them is responsible.
  • Both, either, neither → siempre para exactamente dos elementos.

📗 Pronombres

Personales

This report covers the main issues.

Usos avanzados (B2/C1)

  • Referencia anafórica (backward reference): this/these retoman algo mencionado antes.

The company announced major layoffs. This decision sparked widespread protests.

This is what the data shows: prices have risen by 12%.

  • Contraste temporal: this (ahora) frente a that (entonces).

This government is more transparent than that of the previous decade.

  • Distancia emocional: that para distanciarse de algo negativo.

    That was a terrible mistake.

This is exactly what I meant. / Those were difficult times.

  • ⚠️ Uso en writing académico/formal (muy valorado en EOI): Usar this + noun (en lugar de solo this) hace el texto más preciso y cohesivo:

    ~~This is a big problem.~~ → ✅ This situation represents a significant challenge.

Indefinidos

Someone called you. / I need something to drink.

  • Oración negativa: se usa any-.

I don't know anyone here. / There isn't anything left.

  • Pregunta neutral: se usa any-.

Is there anybody home? / Have you seen it anywhere?

  • Pregunta con oferta: se usa some-.

Would you like something to eat?

  • Pregunta con petición: se usa some-.

Could you lend me something to read?

  • Oración condicional: se usa any-.

If anything goes wrong, call me.

Everything is ready for the meeting.

  • No-: expresa negación total (nadie, nada, en ningún lugar).

    Nothing could stop her.

Everyone is ready. / Nobody has complained.

No one disputed the results. (más formal que nobody)

Relativos

My friend lives in Paris", decimos "I have a friend who lives in Paris".

who ju que, quien Sujeto; se refiere a personas The woman who called you is my sister.
whom jum a quien Objeto; se refiere a personas (formal) The man whom I met yesterday is a doctor.
The book which you gave me was excellent.
This is the house that I grew up in.
whose jus cuyo/a Indica posesión; personas o cosas That's the man whose car was stolen.
where uér donde Se refiere a lugares This is the town where I was born.
when uén cuando Se refiere a momentos en el tiempo I remember the day when we first met.
why uái por qué Se refiere a razones (normalmente tras the reason) That's the reason why she left.

Usos avanzados (B2/C1)

The car that I bought last year broke down.

My brother, who lives in Canada, is visiting next week.

The film (that) we watched last night was fantastic.

  • Which referido a toda la oración anterior: en registro formal, which puede retomar la idea completa de la cláusula previa, no solo un sustantivo.

    She apologised, which surprised everyone.

Interrogativos

Question Word Pronunciación Significado Pregunta por Ejemplo
What uót qué, cuál Cosa, información, acción What are the main causes of climate change?
Who ju quién Persona (sujeto) Who is responsible for this decision?
Whom jum a quién (formal) Persona (objeto); formal/escrito Whom did the manager contact?
Whose jus de quién Posesión Whose report is this?
Which uich cuál/cuáles Elección entre opciones limitadas Which option would you recommend?
When uén cuándo Tiempo When was the policy last reviewed?
Where uér dónde Lugar Where did the incident take place?
Why uái por qué Razón o causa Why has production declined this year?
How jáu cómo Manera, estado How does this process work?
How much jáu mach cuánto/a (uncountable o precio) Cantidad no contable / precio How much does it cost? / How much progress has been made?

How likely jáu LÁIK-li qué tan probable Probabilidad How likely is it that prices will fall?
How about jáu e-báut qué tal, qué te parece Sugerencia o propuesta How about going for a walk this evening?

Usos avanzados (B2/C1) (Preguntas indirectas)

Where does he live? → I wonder where he lives.

  • Preguntas indirectas con if/whether: se usa I'd like to know + if/whether + sujeto + verbo.

Is she coming? → I'd like to know if she is coming.

  • Preguntas indirectas con Could you tell me: fórmula muy común en registro formal y educado.

What time is it? → Could you tell me what time it is?

  • Preguntas indirectas con Do you know: misma lógica, sin inversión de sujeto y auxiliar.

When does it open? → Do you know when it opens?

~~Could you tell me where is the station?~~ → Could you tell me where the station is.

  • What vs. Which: se usa what cuando las opciones son ilimitadas o no se especifican, y which cuando las opciones son limitadas o conocidas.

What music do you like? / Which of these songs do you prefer?

  • Why — respuesta con because o to + infinitivo: las preguntas con why pueden responderse dando una razón con because o un propósito con to + infinitivo.

Why are you studying English? → Because I need it for work. / To get a better job.

How are you? (¿Cómo estás?) / How was the trip? (¿Qué tal el viaje?)

🟩 Adverbios

Frecuencia

always ÓL-ueis siempre 100% Antes del verbo principal; después de to be
almost always ÓL-moust ÓL-ueis casi siempre ~95% Antes del verbo principal
usually IÚ-shu-a-li normalmente ~80% Antes del verbo principal; después de to be
often Ó-fen a menudo ~60% Antes del verbo principal; después de to be
rarely RÉR-li raramente ~10% Antes del verbo principal; después de to be
never NÉ-ver nunca 0% Antes del verbo principal; después de to be

Expresiones

once a week / month / year uáns e uík una vez a la semana/mes/año I go to the gym once a week.
twice a day tuáis e déi dos veces al día She takes the medication twice a day.
every other day É-vri Á-der déi cada dos días He trains every other day.
from time to time from táim tu táim de vez en cuando From time to time, we review our strategy.
on a regular basis on e RÉ-guiu-lar BÉI-sis de forma regular (formal) Meetings are held on a regular basis.
every now and then É-vri náu and den de vez en cuando (informal) Every now and then, I go hiking.
at times at táims en ocasiones (formal) At times, the workload can be overwhelming.

Usos avanzados (B2/C1)

    She is always punctual.

    She has never been late.

Si no hay auxiliar, se añade do/does/did.

I have never seen such dedication. → Never have I seen such dedication.

She rarely complains. → Rarely does she complain.

She will have finished. → She will always have finished on time.

He could have arrived. → He could never have arrived so early.

We go there often. / Sometimes, we go there. / We go there sometimes.

She has already left. / He still works there. / Have you finished yet?

He isn't old enough. (NO ~~enough old~~) / We don't have enough time.

Artículos

Artículo Pronunciación Significado Uso Ejemplo
a e un/a Antes de sonido consonántico; sustantivo contable singular, no específico I saw a dog in the park.
an an un/a Antes de sonido vocálico; sustantivo contable singular, no específico She bought an umbrella.
The book you gave me was excellent.
Ø (artículo cero) — (sin artículo) Sustantivos plurales o incontables en sentido general; nombres propios, comidas, idiomas, deportes Ø Dogs are loyal animals. / She speaks Ø French.

Usos avanzados (B2/C1)

an hour (sonido vocálico) / a university (suena "iú-", consonante).

  • The con superlativos y únicos: se usa the con superlativos, ordinales y elementos únicos en el contexto.

The best solution is often the simplest one.

  • Artículo cero con nombres de comidas y transporte: en expresiones fijas como by car, have breakfast, at school, no se usa artículo aunque en español sí lo llevemos.

We usually have Ø breakfast at 7. / He goes to work by Ø car.

  • The con nombres geográficos específicos: ríos, cadenas montañosas, océanos y países en plural llevan the, pero continentes, países singulares y ciudades normalmente no.

The Amazon flows through Ø Brazil, near the Andes.

Ø Life is unpredictable. (la vida en general) vs. The life he led was full of adventure. (una vida concreta)
